(6,891 posts)is the implied assumption that a two party political duopoly actually requires two fundamentally different parties, that terms like liberal and conservative are static and that a liberal cannot be elected President because of liberalism. All of these positions are essentially correct. The closest experience this country has ever had with a liberal government was during the 30s and only then to save capitalism from itself. Capitalism is conservative by definition and law. Capitalism is governing theory behind the status quo. It controls the nations finances, means of production, mass communication and governance. Therefore, a nation owned by capitalist's is unlikely to every have the opportunity to elect a liberal president, regardless of how liberal or conservative the populace is. My objection to your position is with the notion that, the status quo being what it is, there is anything much for Obama to negotiate about.
