There's probably money laundering, tax evasion and blackmail, and there has to be a paper trail to establish those crimes. They paid the girls in cash, but the cash had to come from somewhere, and considering the amounts involved there will be paper trails through shell corporations and dodgy real estate deals. Epstein had and handled a lot of money, the sources of which are still not clear.
