ICE plans to hold immigrants in warehouses, including Pa. site: report [View all]
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to renovate industrial warehouses to hold more than 80,000 immigrant detainees, one of which is in Schuylkill County, according to reporting by The Washington Post.
The newspaper obtained a draft solicitation that shows the Trump administration looking for contractors to help overhaul the countrys immigrant detention system. The document says ICE would establish a feeder system through the warehouses instead of moving detainees around the country to areas with detention space.
New detainees would first be booked at a processing site, then funneled into one of seven large warehouses across the country, which would hold 5,000 to 10,000 people, and then they would be deported. There are also 16 smaller warehouses, each with a capacity of up to 1,500 people.

Both NBC and Bloomberg previously reported on discussions to construct the warehouses, but specific site plans have not been reported on until The Posts article.
