(96 posts)My coworker and I agree that the Republican party claims to represent the interests of people in my financial situation better than the Democrats. This assumes (counterfactually), of course, that my interests don't include social justice or equality before the law.
I support liberal policies out of a desire for a just and stable society. I usually support Democrats because their stances are closer to what I want than the Republicans'.
I hold a bachelor's degree and people have told me that it would be a waste not to get my Ph.D. I hold a job that pays multiple times minimum wage. None of this deters me from supporting progressive policies. I hope that my education actually makes me more persuasive and effective in arguing for them. Were I to win a political office, I doubt that you would consider me a "working person," but then neither was FDR or JFK, so I'll try not to take it too personally.
