I am furious with them for doing it and us for letting it get this far.

I am furious that we had plenty of warnings and decided not to listen. (Not unusual for this nation, I am afraid.)

I am furious that the programming worked this well. I remember when I laughed at the fact that they were trying to do so.

Not any more. The depth to which this worked is beyond frightening. People are literally afraid to stand up for themselves because they were told not to.

Have we had enough yet? Considering the damage done already, I would have thought so.
