Stephen Miller's "Iron Law" [View all]

In his interview with CNN, Trump’s malign homunculus made it clear that there is no velvet glove on this fist. The world, Stephen Miller insists, must be governed by raw force.

"We live in a world in which you can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” Miller told Jake Tapper of CNN. “These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”

If that sounds familiar it is. It is the ancient worldview that “might makes right”. The law of the jungle. Eat or be eaten. It is the credo of tyrants, conquerors, thugs, and bullies throughout history.

Miller might well have described his philosophy as the “Triumph of the Will,” but that title has already been taken.

Snip.

The law of the jungle is the opposite of the law of civilization.

Yesterday marked the moment when Trump’s troll about seizing Greenland became a full-blown diplomatic crisis, and the world’s democracies came to grips with the reality that the United States had morphed from an ally to a threat.
