Perhaps you're think that you can shorten "blackcurrant" or "redcurrant" to just "currant" - but you can't. Blackcurrants and Redcurrants are indeed separate species. But currants (as in "currant buns", or dried fruit mix, or mincemeat, or Christmas pudding) are dried grapes.
