Rolling Stone's Tim Dickinson asked ChatGPT to explain its own writing style [View all]

Normally I would never post AI slop from a chatbot here, but I'm making an exception for this because (1) other DUers have posted about ways to spot chatbot writing, and (2) this was interesting because ChatGPT does seem to be revealing its programming - chatbots sometimes do - though its description took a rather icky turn toward the end.

The comments on Bluesky were funny. Some of them below.

I asked chat gpt to explain its writing style. Once you catch on to the dumb rhythms it's really hard not to spot in the wild.

Some responses on Bluesky:

I need to go wash my brain after reading this.

I see it everywhere! I have “marketing professionals” that I work with in the nonprofit space that are clearly using ChatGPT to write all of their work. The quickest way to lose institutional voice is to use that crap because you’re just too damn lazy to write it yourself!

Why does it go soft porn language by the end? AI has an ick factor.

"pressure and release" is not how a writer would describe anything they do

it’s actually unreasonable how upset reading that text made me. i think in large part because i know there is no way to meaningfully hurt the computer who wrote that.

I'm hoping the AI companies behind this stupid, harmful technology will be meaningfully hurt by the AI bubble finally bursting, which Ed Zitron expects to happen soon, and to be worse than the dot com bubble:
