President Donald Trump mocked Greenland’s defense by pointing to Denmark’s Sirius Patrol, a dog-sled unit that operates in the Arctic.
But what he missed is that the Sirius Patrol isn’t a weakness — it’s Denmark’s secret weapon. The Sirius Patrol is an elite Danish Special Forces unit that has protected Greenland’s sovereignty for over 76 years. Six two-man teams patrol more than 16,000 square kilometers of Arctic coastline using sled dogs in conditions where vehicles and aircraft fail.These soldiers operate for up to five months without resupply, in temperatures as low as -55°C, carrying hundreds of kilograms of gear.
They are trained in survival medicine, navigation, weapons use, and Arctic warfare.
Their mission? Defend Greenland from foreign military activity, monitor the Arctic, and enforce Danish sovereignty in one of the harshest environments on Earth.
This isn’t a dog sled unit. It’s a sovereignty machine.
