(7,493 posts)I turn 70 in a couple of weeks... and like you, I never thought this country would be so destroyed by its own citizens. I always knew we were too tribally divided, and figured that the lack of follow through with Reconstruction would someday come back to bite us in the butt. But I just never imagined the kind of mess we find ourselves in now. I honestly don't think I'll live long enough to see it sort itself out and get back on the right track. It's all too scary; and my body too fragile to be any good to anyone, except for standing with a sign and yelling with what voice I have yet. I didn't comply in the 70's, and I won't be complying in the future, either.
We're in this together... and worst case scenario, mayhap we "elders" of the country will form our own "tribe" for survival's sake and for companionship with like minds. I do believe we need each other, holding close to family, friends, and our extended family (such as here on DU) in order to keep sane and kicking. I lost it last week... and in fact, I took a few days off from everything that had to do with news, including DU.
I did log on tonight, hoping against hope that Orrex would have a new post up, saying "He's dead!" But alas, it was not to be... (sigh)
