1. People are making way too much of the symbol. The honor itself isn't transferred.

Anyone with the money and/or connections can buy a Super Bowl ring or and Olympic gold medal. It doesn't mean you achieved or won anything other than a symbol of someone else's win.

Hell, I could go to a trophy shop and give myself an award for anything I want.

It would be funny if it turned out not even to be the real symbol....
