I live about 25 miles from St. Paul in a purple suburb. Our two Mexican restaurants are closed and our only Asian restaurant is closed. And a family-owned pizza joint is closed. Dominos remains open.
One of the Mexican restaurants helped me with a big fundraiser in August, provided their food truck for free, and served 120+ delicious meals to the attendees and sponsors. FOR FREE. Theyve been in business for 17 years. I dont care what their legal status is - theyre very successful business owners, employers, citizens, and tax payers. And theyre incredible humans.
The closures are for both employees and customers since foot traffic has fallen off a cliff. The local Target next town over also has much less foot traffic, which I assume is true all over the metro.
How come nobody is talking about the economic toll this occupation is causing??? Spending must be waaaay down, which means tax receipts are way down. Say what you will about taxes in MN - but our economy is among the most vibrant in the nation on every metric!
Edit to add: ICE Agents Ate at a Mexican Restaurant in a Small Town. After Their Meal, They Detained Employees (this restaurant is over 90 miles from the Twin Cities WTF!! https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/ice-agents-ate-mexican-restaurant-214238308.html]
