Have a clear, articulable position and seek to convince others. Do it methodically and exhaustively. Do it with discipline.

For extra credit, be proactive and find an issue that doesn't require a Renee Good getting shot in the face to formulate a strategy.

Or, just to get a passing grade, when Renee Good gets shot in the face, be bold enough to whip your votes. Maybe you won't get lockstep support, but do not provide a permission structure to allow your party to say "this is okay".
