1. Happy trails: Got bear spray and bear bells for the dog?

Just sayin. We are seeing a major influx of mountain lions* (my favorite big cat, but damned dangerous), lynx, and bobcats nearby. Bears tend to be a bit further out. But, boy, did I learn a long time ago to put those bells on the dog(s), keep them leashed and have that bear spray holstered at my side. Still precautions won't trump luck.

*a local woman was killed in the first mountain lion attack since the early 1990s on a trail I often hike about 20 miles away. So, self-prevention is on my mind.
