(10,164 posts)Sure, there were lots of other reasons for the "1994 massacre," but there's little doubt that passage of the first AWB was a huge boon to the GOP. If any legislation offered in reaction to Sandy Point isn't written with extreme care, history will repeat itself in 2014. Mind you, the original AWB was signed into law only three weeks or so before the elections...and (sadly) the American electorate has the collective attention span of a gnat...but it's still a huge risk for the Democratic Party to push for a comprehensive, sweeping bill. Is compromising (but not remotely eliminating) the ability of spree killers* to obtain certain weapons worth the distinct possibility of losing the Senate? Where is the least harm?
