With the advent of the Tea Party and racist comments about his middle name. They actually blamed him for dividing the country by running for president.

However, I'll never forget a Newt Gingrich quote when Clinton was in office. He said "our goal isn't to beat the democrat party, it is to destroy them". So the hate could be traced to some degree back to that despicable man.
