19. The day after the 2016 election, my wife (a transplanted American) cried all day and all night.

Worried about all kinds of things, of course, but mainly about our one family of grands in particular. ( Step-grands to me.) The "blood" grands have a Puerto Rican father, and there is no mistaking that, even on a casual glance, and the "acquired" girl is AA, and a step-everything to the family at large..My wife was (and still is) very afraid for their futures, as am I...although I have faith that America will wake up from this national nightmare eventually.

Happily, they are absolutely THRIVING, at this point, getting very good grades in school, with the elder daughter and step-daughter graduating high school this spring, and the youngest 2 years behind. The eldest 2 are planning on a local college for several reasons, not the least of which is the desire to stay close to the youngest one - at least till she graduates - so she doesn't feel like she's been cast adrift.

Our whole family can relate to the OP's family's anxiety, for sure.
