News outlets and advocacy groups do not capture every death; governmental data hides certain information and is inconsistent across reporting channels. The Southwest Border Deaths Subject Data for fiscal year 2025, for example, recorded nearly 200 deaths for the period but lacks details about how each person died. We have only listed people when we could verify that an agent was involved in their death. The data set for injuries shows only a fraction of the people agents have hurt and typically only includes injuries that were reported and required medical aid.
