(3,429 posts)The use of "male" & "female" was perfectly fine when we were speaking in medical terms...I didn't let them use slang either. In other words, it's a "penis" not a "dick". They just couldn't use it in a "social" term...the young lady in their life (or just the classroom) was referred to as just that...young lady, not "female", or as I noted earlier, "bitch" or "ho". And again, the young men were to be referred to the same way, either young man or young gentlemen, not "that guy" or whatever they were using.
And yes, I also made it quite clear that if they wanted to be referred to with a respectful title, they had to rise to the occasion. I worked in Title 1 schools, so I could get real with these kids. I was able to tell them straight up...don't expect to be treated with respect if you're going to behave like a ho, girl or boy.
