(11,197 posts)My 93 yo mother has lived with my partner and I for the past 13 years. She remains mentally sound and is pretty spry given her age, even navigating stairs daily to and from her bedroom. We have tried convincing her to take a room on the first floor but she gets angry with us when we bring it up. I think maybe she feels it is her bit of independence still.
For about the past year and a half she has become a recluse, not wanting to go out anywhere for fear of contracting anything like a cold or the flu. Her eyesight has deteriorated from macular degeneration, but she loves listening to CSPAN, Rachel Maddow, and The Young Turk. She also loves audio books, so we are frequent shoppers at Better World Books dot com.
It has been a huge chore at times, and we sacrifice much in terms of personal freedom, but she is a valued member of the family and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Your loss is great no doubt, but keep sacred the memories; memories are the secret of immortality.
