Iran has also been hitting Middle East countries left, right, and center - Including the countries that were negotiating on their behalf to prevent US military strike or are otherwise historical allies.

Even with the people of California being politically aligned to oppose the invasion, Iran has shown that it's perfectly content to attack and kill their own supporters.
