1. I was surprised to hear Thom Hartmann calling for a draft.

He thinks it's fairer if the children of the wealthy can be compelled to serve in the military, and as a partial remedy for enlistment driven purely to escape poverty.

He also thinks it would reduce the impulse of the wealthy to guide the nation into war in the first place, in order to protect and enhance their own wealth.

(I believe I am accurately stating Thom's reasons.)
