18. About the KC135

Do I understand there was a mid-air, one KC135 crashed, the other limped to Ben Gurion Airport in Israel with badly damaged vertical stabilizer? How would two tankers get into the same airspace? Did you notice that zoomie vocabulary -- "vertical stabilizer" instead of "tail?"

I'm an old soldier - 1967 - 1995; Vietnam 69-70. 1990-93 I was one of 11 Army guys stationed at Yokota AB Japan, where I learned a little -- two C-130 squadrons, daily C-5's in and out, regular KC135's, mostly from Travis but occasionally one from McGhee-Tyson near Knoxville, TN -- are most KC135 crews ANG?? Yokota had a par 3, 9-hole golf course at the end of the runway and I swear when a C-5 came in, you could hold a putter up at arm's length and damn near touch the landing gear!!

Prior to the three years at Yokota my main contact with AF was talking to FACs and F-4s from the ground in Vietnam where I came to love the smell of napalm morning, noon, and night.
