Nazi Germany worked feverishly to build an atomic bomb, and thank God they couldn't. History would have been much different if they got it in 1943 or earlier.

As it was, it took THREE major military superpowers (USA, UK, and USSR) and four plus years to finally crush them. Without that, there would have been no Nuremberg trials and probably no repercussions to Nazi leaders.
