Let me dumb this down for you...

I have a cousin named Andy. He's a Democrat. He's a union dues-paying school teacher. He's a veteran of Desert Storm, a husband and father of two adorable children. He's also one of the most responsible, reliable people I know. And he owns an AR-15.

When you say dumb shit like, "Andy must have a small dick because he owns an assult rifle," I'm offended not only because you're insulted a family member (and a veteran and a fellow Democrat) but also because you seem to think that both Andy and I are stupid enough to take take seriously a statement that jaw-droppingly idiotic. So not only have you failed shame Andy into not owning his AR-15, you're also alienating people like me who ought to be standing with you, but won't because we would rather not have people think we're prone to holding idiotic opinions.

So your drawing some arbitrary distinction (assult weapons = small penis, but other guns = normal penis) is not going to be particularly helpful in the gun control debate. It might make you feel better or somehow superior, but it's not going to bring about new policies that might saves lives. And it's certainly not going to draw reasonable and responsible people to your side in the discussion.
