And species that produce something seed-like (cysts or akinetes), are not the kind growing in that pool. The kind growing in the pool reproduce by mitosis, and they are basically ubiquitous. Provide the proper conditions for their growth (and the reflecting pool is a nearly-perfect one), they pretty much just grow there and reproduce till the resources are depleted, or the conditions become non-favorable for their lives. One thing they need? Fairly warm water. Clowny McDollhands had them apply paint that makes the water warm enough for the species to thrive. The problem is 100% ON HIM and his fucking "pool guy", who's likely familiar with, you know, pools. Not freaking 'waterways' like the reflecting pool basically is.
