I think prosecuting as many of the criminals in this maladministration could be a good beginning. A big contributing factor that helped get us into the fix we are in now was not prosecuting Nixon and Agnew to the full extent of the law. They were allowed to resign and the only consequences were some public shaming and not being able to run for office again. That sent the wrong message and emboldened Republicans to do what they are doing in the present day.
Citizens United needs to be overturned. Candidates must be required to release their tax information. Congress needs to be barred from trading stocks or legislating about businesses that they or their families hold.
Voting rights need to be strengthened and election days should be paid public holidays.
These are just starter ideas. There's so much damage that will need to be fixed. One of the biggest issues is that corruption in government must be firmly quashed, and our tax system must be overhauled and returned to the system of the 1950's, when the wealthy paid their fair share.
Right now, we need to keep our eyes on the prize: taking back the House, at the least, and the Senate if we can manage it.
