Framing requests for party cohesion as an effort to "shut down progressives" is absurd. It turns a smart standard strategy for winning into an artificial grievance. Debate is good, but if we don't unite behind the winner, none of our agendas move forward.
When someone conflates a call for unity with a purity test, it totally misses the point of a big-tent party. Purity tests narrow the coalition by creating rigid litmus tests.
It really doesn't help for anyone to falsely claim "victimhood" when merely asked to cooperate. Robust debate during the primary is healthy, but winning the general election requires everyone to show up at the ballot box.
It's as simple as that.
