31. "...where were the parents?"

please don't go there because that is akin to blaming the victim. According to newspaper reports the young woman (the victim) had told her parents she was spending the night at a friends house...

I am the mother of 5 and I know (from experience) that does not make her culpable nor her parents bad...

We need to change the culture this happens in! When my oldest was about 16 she told me she was going to spend the night at a friend's house. I had no reason to disbelieve her and at 1am I got a call from the local law enforcement office telling me my daughter was at the barracks. Seems she and her friend had gone to a party and an older party goer thought that maybe the girls were a bit too young to be at this particular party; and he called the police!!!

My daughter now works for Homeland Security...
