(16,191 posts)Anyone can call any college and request verification of degrees and certificates awarded, current enrollment, or dates of attendance. It's part of the public record, and it's a required service to keep people from claiming fraudulent degrees or classroom time. Many individual schools place limits or charge fees for the verification, and others require that you go through third party services so that they don't have to deal with the requesters directly, but that's a school policy thing and not any law or societal expectation.
His enrollment is not "private/personal information" any more than his name is. His actual grades, his disciplinary record, and other documentation associated with his enrollment would be private, but the status of his enrollment and awards is part of the public record.
