....during the Great Depression. Before organized crime moved west to Las Vegas after WWII, Steubenville was one of their largest hubs for gambling of any kind. Operating with tacit approval of local police and politicos, a regular system of gambling was run in the the back rooms of clubs and restaurants. When the bosses shifted their gaming interests to the desert, the operators of new Vegas casinos dredged Steubenville for talented table workers; the first couple generations of Vegas dealers, pit bosses and backroom guys were all from Steubenville.

Ohio Governor Kasich gave his latest inauguration speech in Steubenville, when it has been customary to always do that in Columbus. That raised more than a few eyebrows and more than a few questions as to why.
