(8,827 posts)Many years back I was a tech trainer for an Office XP roll out for a branch of Dept. of Justice. We trained employees ranging from federally appointed judges down to court clerks on how to use Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The class was mandated by their headquarters governing body.
Me: "Okay, so now you're going to want to double-click on the..."
Attorney: "Whoa, Whoa, Whoa...what's double-click? You IT guys! You computer nerds! Why does anyone need to KNOW THIS STUFF?!?!"
Me: "So double-click just means you're going to tap the left mouse button twice..."
Attorney: "What? You know what, I have a secretary for this! This class if for secretaries and computer geeks!" Double left click tap! Who cares?!?!"
Me: "Well, you need to know what these terms mean to complete this class and do your job."
Attorney: "...."
Me: "Right...so double-click the Microsoft Outlook icon on your des...."
Attorney: "ICON! There's another computer geek word. We haven't opened the thing yet but you're in tech nerd land! Nerd alert!"
Me: "Anyone else have an issue with double-clicking an icon or need further explanation?"
(silence)
I don't expect you to really understand this story and get why you = the Attorney in said story. But you are.
