California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a vocal gun control advocate who has pushed for an assault weapon ban in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut last month, said in a statement that her thoughts and prayers were with the victims of this latest shooting.

Daniel Vail, 19, was shot and killed after he aimed a shotgun at two deputies and refused to drop the weapon, authorities said.

Vail had been a suspect in a Jan. 8 home invasion involving a shotgun and baseball bats.
