He appears to have something extremely wrong with his mind (and, note, I said, "appears" because I haven't interviewed him and I'm not a psychiatrist or psychologist).

With all the talk about access to mental health, wouldn't a more prudent move be to send him to a psychiatric ward before just dumping him in a prison where he's sure to founder?

FWIW, I'm not asking that he get off scott free or anything, just that I think it's more beneficial to him and society if he was heavily examined and treated. We could benefit from the information that might provide. So few of these killers fail to kill themselves in one of these shooting sprees that the study of one who survived might help us prevent more.

Just a thought.
