(1,675 posts)Ok, people kill themselves with lots of things. Like the poem by Dorothy Parker says
Razors pain you; rivers are damp;
acids stain you; and drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful; nooses give;
gas smells awful;
you might as well live.
But out of all of those things, there is only one that's primary use is killing and that is a gun. That is an undeniable fact. Guns kill, that is what they were made to do.
And if you want to keep the car false equivalency going, you need to take a test and carry a license to drive a car. Not so much a gun. Someone can go their whole life not killing something with a car. (animal or human) I didn't buy a car considering its ability to kill or its kill range.
But when you buy a gun, it is with the express reason to kill something (as in hunting) all of your questions and research are in how easy is it to kill what you want to kill with it so you can fill your freezer with game (yummy).
If you are a police officer, you need a gun so if you are forced to have to use it, you need to be able to be sure to hit your target. And the GOOD cops I have known in my life have all told me that the LAST thing they ever want to do is shoot someone.
So please, tell me again how a gun is just like a car.
