(15,359 posts)from. Usually it starts by being a country club brat. Dad has big bucks and buys a family pass. You have all the time you could possibly want to hang out at the golf course, take private lessons from a pro, practice and play thousands of rounds. The kind of thing a really talented average Joe golfer could never do. A guy like that would kill to get a chance to be a club pro and work at a public golf course. I know because I'm pretty good but only get a chance to play a couple rounds a month during the summer. Refining the short game was out of the question. I never got a chance to practice that much. Now I'm too old.
Then it's high school golf and probably college golf. I should be researching Phil's history but I have a feeling I don't need to.
