I am a displaced Buckeye (have been in Texas 20 years). The major northern cities do tend to be more tolerant than a lot of the south. Once you get out in the rural areas, they are every bit as bad as racist southerners. This "southerners are stupid, racist hicks" attitude that some espouse does get tiresome.

On edit: I wasn't aiming at the OP, which was just good natured ribbing. I was talking about the "everyone in the south is nasty" person you were responding to.
