In reply to the discussion: Insulting Invocation [View all]garthranzz
(1,330 posts)The responses are revealing. People are offended that I was offended at a religiously exclusionary coda at a public event. I referred specifically to the END of the invocation. (The ending marred the rest.) That only I found insulting and offensive. I know others did not. (Someone mentioned Schumer - how does the poster know what Schumer thought?) (Apparently, the remark was not in the transcript (not in the one posted in the thread).) But I think reference to a particular religious creed in a public context is inappropriate and intimidation. If she had said, "in the name of Zeus and anybody else out there..." perhaps people would get the point. (Check your euphemisms.) To me, it's a form of bullying. Others weren't bothered by it; I was. It was unnecessary. The difference may be experience or sensitivity.
