And the Senators' constituencies are more complex than just 100% platform followers. Guns are getting a lot of recent press. But it seems like economy, jobs, rights, peace, healthcare, any of those may be more important than the current 2d amendment kerfuffle.

Senators (and Representatives) need to listen to their constituents, if they want to be re-elected (I assume most do).
