In reply to the discussion: there are no dogs in heaven [View all]The Green Manalishi
(1,054 posts)32. Dogs are bodhisattvas
In one major school of thought, a bodhisattva is a soul who had decided that they will NOT move on to Nirvana, even though they could, until everyone else does. The reincarnate amongst us to show us the way.
My rottweiler, Brutus, was just such a soul. More than having practiced and perfected love, compassion, charity and caring many lifetimes ago, he dedicated at least one existence to showing me how a being (regardless of species) should love and care for others. In a way I am sad that he is no longer in his 130lb body, shaking the very earth with his bark, but his time with me taught me more than a thousand hours of sermons by mere humans ever could.
