(6,002 posts)red states, at least that is how I interpreted it. People who are obviously voting against their pocketbooks because of beliefs that somehow the GOP has answers for them, when in fact, the GOP uses wedge divisiveness and religion and fear to dangle the vote/carrot in front of them. For some reason the red state poor are more easily swayed, perhaps because of religious stances on abortion, etc. You get my drift.
I think we understand that to reach the other side, a new way of presenting what seems obvious to dems, is what is called for when dealing with trying to get poor or middle class GOP'ers to understand that wedge issues do not have to be the end all and be all.
Mudcat Saunders is the man who should speak to this issue, IMHO, he understands like no other on this subject. The red vs. blue states map are almost identical to the stances/map on the issue of slavery. There is a different way of thinking that we need to reach out to, we have to end the fear and educate in regard to the divisive issues. If one were to cast those aside, I think there is far more common ground that unites the 99% vs. the 1%, we the people vs. corporate entitlement.
