(1,034 posts)I feel the influence of right wing talk radio, the hijacking of religious beliefs for right wing purposes and the innate racism of the south and south central areas of the country have really muddied the waters for true American Progress.
Don't misinterpret this statement but I often wonder how much things would be different if Hillary had been elected instead of Barack. She, being white and female, may have been more successful in achieving progress simply because the racists would not have had the fuel they were given. Something tells me they would have still had the money and the desire to destroy the middle class and break up unions and so on but they would have had to use different tactics. The teabaggers would have had to have a completely different message without a black man to demonize.
So to get down to cases, promoting economical ways for them to have a better life wherever they are, be it medical, Agricultural issues, rural broadband Highway and rail infrastructure and most importantly education for their young ones and a decent future in employment for them.
All this has to be promoted well; remember the corporatists fighting the stimulus and then going home and waving their flag about how they were bringing money home to their districts, sickening but it was done.
I also feel the slanted influence of the media has been very successful. Many people see a
democrat or liberal and see a "commie pinko freak." That is brainwashing pure and simple. And it will take years to counter that influence.
