(5,420 posts)From what I see, we don't like anyone to come tell us what we can do with our land or at our house. Not just rural people but all people I think are confused about the "smaller" government thing.
We hear faux news telling us (not me)that we want less government, but what the republicans mean by less government, is less corporate government, while being able to probe up the peoples asses anytime they want.
What the people want is less government on the people. Like what we do in our own homes, in our own medical situations. But many don't seem to understand that we need more regulation on big business to keep them from killing us for profit, less regulation on little guys and people. I think you need to make this clear to all people, not just rural.
second Are we still paying the churches like we were under Bush? I would say a lot of the country people are church goers. If the churches are getting kickbacks to say negative crap about Obama and using that one hit wonder of abortion, then these are the messages they will take to their flock. And flocks tend to listen.

Many many people vote on one issue. Make it clear that there are other issues. Like abortion. The way to stop abortion is by making people feel they can afford to raise their children. Then abortions will reduce automatically. And that we want to do it that way rather than bring the government into your home. We want people to prosper like they do under the dems, then they won't seek an abortion, rather than have a government mandate on your health.
The republicans use sound bytes effectively, we do not. You must find a way to get the message down to something that people will understand and remember. Then repeat, repeat, repeat.
