(18,402 posts)It's a very specific term that refers to efforts in the last weeks and days of an election to make sure that the people that a campaign has already identified as supporters physically get to the polls. It involves either personal telephone calls or door knocks to remind people of the day of the election and make sure they know the current location of their polling place. It also involves asking the person whether they intend to vote, and calling back until you find they have actually gone to do so; then marking them off on the list, so that you can move on to those who have not yet voted. It's a way of tracking your voters to make sure that all the people who have said they support you actually act on it.
It's not the same as canvassing, and it's certainly not the same as "exciting" people about upcoming elections. And no, rumors right now about Hillary running will have no effect on very specific races in local Congressional districts. At all.
