Alaska Republican Joe Miller, the tea party-backed candidate who fell short in his bid for a Senate seat last year, isnt backing away from politics, saying today that he has signed on to run a PAC with strong ties to the tea party movement.
Miller who rose to fame last year after defeating Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the GOP primary, only to lose to a Murkowski write-in bid in the general election will become the chairman of the Nevada-based Western Representation PAC, which describes itself as working to tak[e] back our country from the control of special interest groups and fighting against the growth of government.
We are trying to be a significant influence in 2012 and simply an extension of what we saw in 2010, Miller told ABC News on Wednesday. The tea party movement is going to be bigger not much question about that [and] more of a political force to be reckoned with in 2012, he said.
Millers hope is that the PAC will become an important factor in endorsing tea party candidates nationwide. In the 2010 cycle, the PAC reported raising $401,020. Miller, by comparison, raised more than $3.3 million for his failed Senate bid.
