Renaissance art was inspired by Roman and Greek stuff, but the Di Medici were looking for the new and provocative in the early period. Then the church infiltrated the family and suddenly things got more religious. The entire Sistine Chapel was painted nude by Michelangelo but later the church thought it was disgusting to see the naughty bits and had most of the secret parts painted over as to not disturb the sensitive cardinals who were too busy with the castrati and the alter boys.
