I have no problem with these performers calling themselves performers but until they can sit down and prove their vocal creds, no manipulation or acrobatics, and sing something and actually HOLD a pitch I will shiver when they win awards as musicians.
I was in rehearsal working a Brahms symphony the night of the Super Bowl but saw all the reaction. I have spent much of my life either in a practice room alone, in a rehearsal hall with others or on stage performing. I make pennies for every hour I spend. I am proud to be a professional musician in a somewhat smallish venue. Who I see in popular culture now would rightly be called a performer. They are VERY good at that. Musician? That I need more proof of before I would ever consider them that.
