10. Tug of war is usually played with a rope like this

That can't be wrapped around a finger.

My guess is that the rope was thin enough to wrap around fingers, and the kids wrapped them around their fingers to try to get a better grip.

I see liability for the school if the school supplied an inappropriate rope.
