(21,046 posts)133. A better than Pavarotti version of Nessun dorma.
Pavarotti was a great tenor in the 1970s, but after he went pop, he had no subtlety in his dynamics and just blasted. I don't like KD Lang or that song she's singing.
James McCracken was an Irish tenor with a 52" chest, former boxer, and handsome too. Notice that he starts out softly and finishes loudly (fortissimo). I was lucky enough to see him in I Pagliacci in about 1971
- Nessun Dorma
The best version of the Pearl Fishers Duet by Bizet- Barry Mcdaniel(baritone) and Alfredo Kraus (the tenor-short guy). Two fishermen have a crush on the same priestess at the temple of Brahma. They fight in the middle(chord of doom at 5:23), and then decide they will be friends until death.
Kraus's French is absolutely perfect:
Another great version of the Pearl Fishers duet--Robert Merrill & Jussi Bjorling. They synchronized their vibrato!!:
Andrea Bocelli doesn;t have the chops for opera.
Alfredo Kraus singing Una furtiva lagrima (A furtive tear) from The Elixir of Love. He was 63 when he made this recording. A true great lyric tenor.
Extraordinary subtlety and control.
Franco Corelli singing Core 'Ngrato (Ungrateful Heart):
anything else ya wanna know????

Does that mean you'll be self-deleting this thread, and restarting it in Entertainment?

A 'real singer' is any singer that people want to listen to. It is about the listeners. All of them.

To put this in some context, could you give an example of someone you think isn't a "real singer"?
