(12,008 posts)She and Poly Styrene basically were just girls when they started out. I just did a quick look at Poly's bio on wikipedia, and it doesn't add up. One thing says she was born in '57 (same year as Siouxsie), but another says she was just 16 in '75, so... In any case, they were young and amazing.
Having been born in the 70's, I basically missed out on all of that, though early 80's music is the first music I remember hearing, especially The Clash, Madness, and Culture Club... sadly, all female-free groups (unless you count Boy George, whose name my little tyke friends and I could never remember... he was often called Boy Girl, I think).
I remember HATING (as in, throwing temper tantrums) the music my dad listened to; Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Carol King, Nancy Sinatra, etc. Funny thing is, I really like most of them now. I'm surprised that while almost everyone grows up in most ways, they get stuck in adolescence when it comes to musical tastes.
